Assignment #9

3D Art Forms Research – STAGE 1

Three Dimensional: having or appearing to have length, breadth, and depth.

David Smith depicted the movement so well in his 3d projects. Making the movement in his artwork not appear stiff. Although he uses some geometric shapes, he is able to incorporate organic lines to make the artwork flow and balance out.

Charles Ginnever created very abstract 3D project with very stiff straight lines and stuck to only geometric shapes. Her artwork seems to be more architectural as she doesn’t really use organic lines like David Smith does with his artwork.

3D Objects found in my dorm

These are some of the 3D objects I found in my dorm. You can tell that they are 3D from the dimension and shadows that are clearly shows in the objects. I chose some geometric items and some that are rounder and more organic.

3D Art Forms Research – STAGE 2

These are the 3D shapes that I made with paper. I made a lot of organic shapes with them and I also tried working with the same ones to make them different by altering their shape. I feel like with paper you can only make organic shapes and lines rather than geometric ones because of how flimsy and flexible the paper is.

Foam board 3D Structure

This is the 3D structure that I created using foam board. One thing that I would improve on if I had to do this project again would be to cut more clean and straighter lines. I didn’t realize until later into the project that the reason why the styrofoam was ripping on the sides was because of the blade that I was using. I also had to make this project twice because the first time I did this, the structure made the project look too messy and unclean. So I decided to go with a more simplistic and geometric look.
