Time Archive Project

The Original 36 Pictures

I took 36 pictures of my friend AJ inside Washington Square Park. I wanted to capture a moment in AJ’s day where he goes to the park and show what he does there and how he spends his time there.

I unfortunately did not have a picture of the draft of my book before but I do have the grid and the layout process. I later chose these 14 photos and sequenced them for my book so that it flowed and would make sense. I originally did not intend for it to be black and white but I really liked the look for it and wanted to use B&W for the final product but later when we were critiquing a lot of people said it was difficult to see because it was so dark so I chose to print in color.

These pictures are the front cover, the inside pages of the book, and the back cover. I wish the glue would have dried properly and not stuck to the pages so that there wouldn’t be any tears, but other than that I am happy with my book and I’m happy with the color I chose for the cover because it goes w the blue scheme that reoccurs in the book from AJ’s jacket.

Understanding Comics – Chapter 2

Chapter 2 of Understanding Comics covers a lot but specifically it goes into depth about the style of drawing and designing and trying to get the messages across through perspective. It was interesting to read about how in comics we are able to register and grasp the concept of it better because we imagine ourselves as the character. As an artist I never really thought about how much that affects us and the people we show our artwork to and how the level of abstract we make our artwork and affect how one takes in and understands artwork, whether thats through books, comics books, paintings, designs, signs, symbols, and the list can go on.
