PINK

Object Title: The gentlewoman collection

Creator: Storytailors

Description: faille and satin ribbon “Corset armor Saint Isabel” ensemble

Time: winter 2011

The garment is in a jumpsuit shape and each part is connected by the red ribbon. The garment’s color is rose and close to light pink, there are pressed stripes on the fabric. The top is a corset-like design which makes the jumpsuit very feminine and sexy. The head is also covered with the mask that is wrapped with the red ribbon randomly. I think the reason that pink is used in this color is that pink can be both gentle and strong. This jumpsuit has an armor-like structure which makes it look strong and impeccable, however, with the color pink, it will not influence people to feel the aggressive atmosphere but a feeling of becoming independent and brave. The reason I chose this object is that the head part design attracted me very much. The head mask is composed by the pink head mask and the red ribbon. From the picture, you can see the red ribbon is wrapping the face in a very disorder and random way which makes me feel like the person is restrained by the social pressure and she is trying really hard to fight with the cruel reality. With the pink in the design, I empathize that such color has an elastic magic that can be both soft and strong.

In my perspective, this object is very different from other objects in the exhibition because it does not have a very delicate and fine design, its design can even be described as rough and simple. The whole style has a strong and rigid visionary impact that makes my eyes stick to it. At the first, the viewers would look at it because it is not a beautiful gown or haute couture by famous designers, however, as they spent more time looking at it they will be trapped in the atmosphere the garment has created and begin to feel the struggles and the powerful emotions in it.
