Bill Cunningham reflection

Bill Cunningham is the legendary photographer for New York Times. Mr. Cunningham shows a series of fashion trends happening in the fashion city, New York. He was an easy one to spot, he was the man on 57th and 5th Avenue in Manhattan, wearing a blue French worker’s jacket riding his bicycle. That was the spot where he made fashion photography a history. But not only peopled noticed him but people dressed up for Bill to notice them. It was not about the Birkin bags or Chanel jumbo flaps but it was about who had their own personal style. Mr. Cunningham did not care about his own lifestyle as long as he represented the others’. He lived in a studio above Carnegie Hall piled up with files, showered in a shared bathroom and ate $3 egg and cheese breakfast everyday at the Stage Star Deli just 2 streets down from 57th street. Which made me realise the difference with people who work for the money and the people that work for their strong passion in something they love. He inspired me in so many ways and has given me a strong passion for photography. His passion for fashion, photography, culture and even people has taught me there is a better outcome when the photographer is “happy.”
