Sarah Sze and Alex Prager

The first exhibition that we visited was Sarah Sze’s Crescent “TimesKeepers”. The exhibited work explores multiple never ending narratives from magazines, newspapers, tv and iPhones. Even narratives that are found in the cyber and outer space. Through such narratives and through the use of 2D, 3D and 4D media, the artist is able to transcend the viewer into her own space that alters the viewer’s understanding of time, place and memory. In addition, the constant looping of the media, with no end to it, further manipulates the viewer’s understating of time.

On the other hand, Alex Prager explored the theme of time through the merging of different cultural references and eras. The artist also makes use of visual narratives, specifically in her film “Play The Wind”, in which the anthropomorphizing of the city of Los Angeles allows the viewer to experience Prager’s fictional world. In addition, time was manipulated through the different mediums used as the same elements present in the film were recast as photographs and sculptures, framing different moments of the initial frame.
