Integrated Studio – Reflection

Having engaged and interacted with the theme/concept/idea of an Avatar throughout the past 3-4 months, I’ve definitely grown to be more receptive and open to whatever an Avatar may be. I used to think that Avatars had to fit a certain mold, they had to either exist within the digital or religious space. This development in my thinking didn’t come about due to what was being taught in class but rather as a result of me having gone through the motions of having worked on a handful of creative projects. I now look at quite literally everything as having the potential to be an Avatar; a chair, a state of mind, clouds etc. With that, I am also able to personify things that I never once had the thought to.

Setting goals and objectives in with my creative life/work is always awkward for me. There are a few definite pointers that I will want to keep note of though; I’m hopeful that with the works that I do create, there is will be some sort of influence from my upbringing as a queer person from Asia and with the time that I’ve spent in England maybe even New York, just like I look up to the upcoming young artists/designers of today, I hope that I will reach a place and have work that is of such quality that youth of the new future will look to me as a source of inspiration or any form of positive influence and I wouldn’t ever want to forget to give back to the tutors and mentors that have guided me along the way. There truly isn’t a straight forward manner to strike those goals. I’ll just have to do what I’m currently doing but a hundred times harder, constantly take in information/influences and be aware of the world that I’m in.
