After I read through Sagmeister’s “Advice for students” there is one response that resonates with me the most, which is the answer for this question:”Is it possible to have both, making money and doing good work?” Stefan answered this question which saying that”every designer whose prime aim in going into business was to make money while at the same time producing good design, failed on both counts. …you have to do for love. If you are committed first and foremost to producing good design then you’ll make money as a by-product because good design is something people are willing to pay for. But that financial reward will be a bonus, a gift.” I agree this the most because of I think if design couldn’t make money for us or it can not to support our daily life expenses, then you can be a designer as your hobby. If you making a design with low income then that means your design do not get other people’s confirm, then what is the point to work as a designer? Of cause, as designer, you need to doing all of work with love or passion, but if you put your love and passion into your work, how could your work be bad? If you are doing good work, then people willing to pay for it as a bonus and gift for your talent also the hard work and time you spend on it.
From the inspiration section, one response that resonate with me the most is that :”What do you feel is the biggest block to your creativity?” Stefan answered: “Boredom, uninteresting content and fear of not being able to come up with anything.” Boredom is the biggest enemy for inspiration, think about it, if you feel something that is boring would you keep thinking about it? No, if you feel something boring then you wouldn’t think about it because you are uninteresting for it therefore you can not get any inspiration from it. you are deny on it by your own. inspiration and creativity only excite when you truly feel like interesting so you can put yourself into it therefore good design will be born.
For those three different domains, I would like to investigate with aesthetics of food, sociology and music production for this semester. First, I choice aesthetics of food is because of I think food is an art, I love food, love eat and want to eat something not just the food itself but more. Such as aesthetics of food. we live and work for everyday actually it is all because of we need to eat, for example I do workout is because of I want to eat with no qualms of conscience, food is important and the difference between the quality life and not quality life is depend on what your food and what do you eat. I would like to eat my food with a feast for the eyes. Beside since in this class, mine professor also love good restaurant and have a restaurant of mine own is one of mine dream in the future so why not? I want to learning about historical context on sense perception, judgment, and aesthetics. And exploring representations of food. Also experiencing food as art in America’s top restaurants.
Second, the reason I want to investigate with sociology is because of we are a vis culture class, and sociology is something that relate with it. Also sociology is very important for us to learn about ourselves, sociology is the rule of our human society, once you learn about it, your life will be so much easier. The area about sociology that I want to learn is the relationship between yourself and the whole human society, how can you use sociology to become a better man and how does sociology can use on open a restaurant.
Third, music production is an interesting area that I always want to be involve, I think music is just like art, is the way you expression yourself. somethings music is like an encrypted story to me, you have to listen and understand it, not just the note but the emotion that hidden inside of it. I want to write mine own story in the music therefore I would like to investigate with music production. I want to gain the basics of music production and those things you need to be aware of. perhaps one day I can achieve mine music dream.
