Francis Bacon – Disturbing

I got to the artist Francis Bacon because of how I feel this morning. My senses are at a high today. I feel empty, but at the same time slightly irritated. The strongest sense I have is  currently is disturbed. Francis’ work relates to how I feel this morning.

“Francis Bacon was born on October 28, 1909, in Dublin. As he was growing up, he became aware of his homosexuality, as did this family. They didn’t accept it, and in 1926, Bacon, only 16 at the time, was kicked out of his house. He became a furniture and interior designer. Creating in glass and steel, he mainly drew inspiration from his contemporaries and modernists like Eileen Gray and Le Corbusier. ” https://www.widewalls.ch/artist/francis-bacon/

From there Francis met a man that inspired him to paint. His first works weren’t very successful, but he kept on painting. As the years passed he created many successful pieces that have sold for large amounts. He has works in many different countries now.

Union Square Trip Observations

When going to Union Square, I came across a couple of things that caught my attention. This was my favorite piece. It is an enclosed pathway with rocks on the North East side of Union Square. A statue of Mohandas K. Gandhi stands in the middle of the enclosed pathway. What interests me the most is why would they make an enclosed pathway inside of the park? I tried to see if you could open the gate to walk along the stone pathway, but it was locked. If you can’t walk on the pathway you can’t really get a good look at the statue, which I’m assuming is the center of attention for this strange piece. The strangest part of it all is that the pathway leads to no where. The stones just stop about 100 feet away from the entrance of the pathway, leading to no where… Why would they build this? Who built this and why?

Artist Statement – January 2019

I am a goal driven person. In all areas of my life I set a goal and then accomplish it. I find that it makes whatever I have to do easier.

As an artist I would have to say that I am more inclined to do abstract work. I excel in the areas of cosmetology and fashion. I like to incorporate abstract looks into all art that I do. When writing, which I do often, I prefer to take a different approach to things, not necessarily a speficic view, but just an open mind. I do think more on the business side, but I have a certain aspect of creativity that doesn’t allow me to be strictly a business person.
