#A22: SCAMPER 2

This exercise helped me come up with more green design ideas for the vertical park/ community centre I am proposing for Jackson heights. I decided the location of this building would be 23rd Ave and 87th Street which is currently a big parking space and will then be converted to a building with underground parking to accommodate the vehicles.

I began thinking of ways this building could sustain it’s electricity usage or atleast half a building’s usage and got inspired by the windmill turbines installed in Bahrain world trade centre and I thought incorporating smaller windmills in the building would help with electricity usage since Queens anyway is a windy area.

Next, I decided that this building can have underground parking spaces so the visitors wouldn’t have to worry about getting a ticket or find a space nearby.

I also decided of having solar panels every alternate floor which will have brick walls as another alternative for saving electricity. The installation may be a little over budget but this design will definitely help save a lot of electricity cost for the building.

Initially the 4th floor was designed as a virtual reality parlour but since this place is also like a community centre or a place where different communities can bond together I decided to change that into a floor which will be a space where community meetings, parties or book readings could be held. Every month a weekend would be set for calling local artists such as musicians, artists and other such people that we find performing on the subway to come and perform to gain popularity and some money.
