Dox Bay, First Upload

Hey!

Dox Bay: Destroy The Meteors! is out and available to play on Windows and Mac (with more issues on Mac than Windows currently)

The final iteration of the game that I presented had these main parts to the game:

  • An intro film – the DoxBay animation I made
  • A transition video to show 2D to 2.5D
  • The game with the three waves
  • and a winning video, which is the extended DoxBay video.

The Winning video wasn’t made in time for the presentation.

The three waves I had didn’t exactly bring their emotions to light in the first presentation of the game. The calm level did really well, I heard reviews of the DoxBay blue background and the characters without outlines created a clean calm atmosphere. The next wave, which was supposed to be the Confusion Wave, had 3D-looking 2D sprite meteors spinning around their spawn points, they would rotate to face the player as they came by, this wave didn’t really confuse many. They just kept pointing and shooting. The third wave was supposed to be the Shock Wave, where some shocking things happened. I was advised that a drastic change to the enemy code should’ve been implemented here like a random motion as they chased you. Instead, for the presentation I had the first set of enemies spawn up in a greater amount than before.

What I will change for the more public release:

  • I will fix the error where the intro videos doesn’t play before the game on Mac
  • I will code “Meteor’s left” UI element
  • I will make the whole game turn weird for the confusion level
  • I will change up the enemy-player interaction code for the third wave
  • I will animate the winning animation that gets played when you win the game!
