Biker Ballerina

In the Pink Exhibition at FIT the clothing in the exhibition that grabbed my attention the most was the Biker Ballerina collection by Comme des Garcons. This outfit was defining how people think of ballerina dancers as anorexic young girls but in reality they are strong athletes. But if they want to become a professional dancer they will have to become strong as an athlete which explains the leather suit on the outfit. Comme des Garcons was questioning the gender stereotypes with this garment because of the color and material being used in this outfit. I see pink as a strong color because it’s so feminine, I see men wearing it too. I see the color to be for all ages and gender. You don’t see a lot of men wearing the color pink but when I do see a man wearing the color pink it gives me a sense that they are brave enough to wear that color. In an article I read by Anna Broadway, it mentioned that the color pink wasn’t always for females it was for men too. In the Great Gatsby Jay would show up in a pink suit and looked strong with confidence. I enjoy how the designer is trying to make a point about the color pink because he wants people to see this garment as fierce and powerful. He also would like them to feel that way in general. He wants to make a point for most of the hardworking people out there that they can be powerful by working hard.
