From the beginning of the semester my class was to define the definition of fashion. In my thoughts I thought fashion was defined as an article of clothing that people wear to express themselves but later on in the semester I’ve found out that fashion isn’t just what people wear to express themselves it is to show a meaning to people. One interesting thing that I learned in the semester was about subculture groups. I have done research on the cosplay community for this project and learned so much about how each member in the subculture group has a different taste in clothing depending on their group. When I did research I found out that the cosplay community enjoys dressing up and role playing in their costumes. Another thing I learned is how a uniform for work,school, service, and anything has a meaning. For example if a military guard was wearing his uniform it describes how he/she is serving our country. In one of the readings I’ve read called “Why I wear the exact same thing to work everyday” describes how this lady came to work late with an unprofessional outfit. Since her first day on the job with her outfit she didn’t like, she decided to give herself her own uniform design so she can become more prepared instead of rushing to find an outfit and spending too much money. In her words she said “ We have been given the opportunity to reflect our true personalities in everything we wear” which I agree what fashion means to me.
