Overview Research
- I believe that Fashion is always related with History, so I started this project with lots of investigation and researches about the colour black——a widely used colour in daily lives, especially people’s outfits on street in New York City.
- The research is about the history of colour black, the symbols and meanings, the changes of the colour throughout time and how it affects the female social statues.
- *My first project is also about the relationship between fashion and history, so I would like to round up my main ideas in this last project for this course.
My Artist Statement
- I like to create visual contrast in my artworks, such as colours, especially black and gold, black and white, black and red.
- The colour black for me is very interesting and attractive. However, black is a colour that have negative symbols and meanings in the past.
- I always believe that art & design is a form of communication between people, it is the nature instinct for human to draw, convey and record.
- I would like to use art to learn history, humanity and expression languages.
Studio Project
I want to create a black garment related with death, daily and female statues. I will also be wearing it on street as part of my research to see the acceptability of people nowadays, and here’s a line in my research essay’s conclusion:
“Black in the fashion history is not the most reason that pushes history and such developments, however, it could be a good example for us to investigate the past, put gender issues in mind, understandings of death, and to reflect people’s ideological progress for the better future.”
Bullet points conclusion:
- Huge change in the symbolic meanings.
- Raise female’s social statues throughout time.
- Shows a development of people’s thoughts and acceptability.
- Brings liberty in fashion history. (How black is used & People can wear whatever colours they want)
