Time Capsule

Brainstorming: For my time capsule project I was thinking of taking pictures of shoes. Shoes represent a distance traveled, if they are worn and torn they can represent a long period of time or they are the result of a physical action that tangibly transports you from one location to another, new shoes would represent a small period of time. They can also represent time by drawing ones memory to a period or time in ones life.

I can also adapt the theme of time to steps taken – It is an unconscious paced exercise, performed by your body as a mode of travel, usually in reaction to a thought or an objective. Steps are controlled by the speed induced in them allowing you to walk, jog or run and multiply the distance traveled. One can travel slowly or quickly

The places one might take their steps are filled with a historical past…

I began to collect images that either I took of my friend or ones that were taken of me.

title of the project could be the total number of steps taken around the world.

Screen shot of steps that I took and combined into a collage for inspiration: I liked the idea of a collage for my time capsule project, I felt like I needed to add text thought to give more background to the viewer.

Each frame displays, the date, the location, and the amount of steps taken on that day. Steps mark foot movements made against solid ground, also known as footsteps. They are the result of a physical action that tangibly transports you from one location to another. A step always has an intended direction, but doesn’t guarantee reaching your desired destination. It is an unconscious paced exercise, performed by your body as a mode of travel, usually in reaction to a thought or an objective. Steps are controlled by the speed induced in them allowing you to walk, jog or run and multiply the distance or time traveled. They allow you to travel slowly or quickly, and consequently late or early.

Time is viewed in a variety of ways and so for each frame I chose to add the number of steps taken that day. In each photograph I am wearing a different shoe and with each shoe comes a different amount of steps taken. I felt as if the steps taken represented the time I spent roaming around wherever I was in the world as well as represented a memory which thus was a period of time in my life. For this time capsule project I used text over the image of the shoe I wore on that day to represent time, you can see time by looking at an image and observing whether it is daylight outside or night time but you could also see time by looking at an image and the shoes I might be wearing and assuming that I wore heels would make the time spent exploring that day shorter then the time spent on a day I was in sneakers.
