’70-80s woman’s fashion in Japan’

where they got the style and how was it influenced by foreign designers.

these pictures were taken by my grandfather in the early 1970s in Japan. In these pictures, there are my grandmother and father when they went on a trip to somewhere.

my grandmother wears a black button-up short sleeve jacket with black long pants on the left picture, she wears a black long sleeve cardigan on top of a white shirt with a scarf in the picture in the middle, and she wears the white and green one-piece dress in the right photo. I assume that the hairstyle she has in these pictures is a typical 70s woman in Japan and which I need some research about.

Name: Chargex Credit Card

Description: Will that be cash or chargex?

Company: Visa

Publication: Time

Decade: 70’s

Issue Date: May 73

Ad ID:11414

this is the picture that I found in adflip.com, which is the advertisement for Visa in May 1973. In this picture, there are three women wearing different kinds of dresses and that was the basic thing to wear in the early 70s. I think this is a very interesting image to compare with and will find some similarities and differences between the 70s in Japan and other countries.

I find interest to compare these two images because, after this time period, some Japanese outstanding designer came out, such as Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, and Issey Miyake. I want to know how these Japanese designers were inspired by other countries, and by comparing these images, I would like to find how Japanese fashion and fashion in other places were different and how the Japanese fashion style was inspired by other cultures.

These legendary Japanese designers are always my favorites and what my goal is, so this research is very meaningful to me and it will eventually affect my design work and inspirations.
