Marina Abramović – body

February 7, 2019 - Integrative Seminar 2

The inspired word of mine was the word body. Since recently, I am really focusing on feeling my body and the nutrition intake of health, the word body just pops up in my mind when I was wandering through the classroom.

I just typed body artist on the internet and  websites about this artist ” Marina Abramović ” just suddenly filled up most of the links.

Marina Abramović was born in 1946 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and was a seminal artist of our time. She used her own body as a medium to perform and explore the physical and mental limits on body and mind. She had withstood pain, exhaustion, and danger in the quest for emotional and spiritual transformation, also created works that act out our daily lives with lying, dreaming, thinking, and sitting as a human being.

Carrying the Skeleton

this works refers to the idea of humans confrontation on facing death, which also infers the Tibetan tradition while Buddhist monks would sleep with skeletons under decompositions of every-stage thorough out various nights and meditate.

The Hero

This piece indicates the memory of the artist’s father who was a Yugoslav partisan during the Second World War.The image was later turned in to black and white to infer past memories.

Rhythm 5

This was one of the most significant piece of the artist, which challenge the limitation of the body and almost made the artist herself suffocated. It evoked the energy of extreme body pain, and some audience may not realize it.
