Week 3: Systems Thinking

     3. The Anthropocene is the fact that us humans are dominating and taking over the planet, we heavily determine and control the environment and the situation of the earth. Since our planet is facing serious climate change, diseases, and natural disasters caused by our “disrespectful” towards our motherland. I think having the ability to influence people and effectively informing people would be the skill that I want to gain. In order to get the skill that I want, getting an education like branding yourself and marketing your ideas is necessary. Just like how internationalized, communications and culture influenced (capitalism) encouraged finance and pollution. I want to gain the skills that successful business and put it into business so that people could be influenced on a daily basis in order to raise awareness to protect our environment.

4.  The Healthier Material lab is a collection of materials that designers can use and is divided into categories. By listening to an introduction I learned that the lab is not about which material is healthier than which; rather, it is to be informed so that you could choose the best and safe material to develop. I was attracted by a material called microsilk, I was surprised because I never know about yeast could be made as thin as thread. After I left, I found more information online saying that the yeast silk product is actually being produced just like how beer does. After the process of fermentation, the liquid silk protein can be turned into fabric through wet-spinning, which is also the same way fiber like acrylic and rayons are made. This finding makes me really exciting because I imagined how biomaterials could turn into something solid like the bricks, and every child’s chocolate and sugar house can come true one day.  I kind of loving this place because I found it extremely helpful because it tells us how things work and could inform students and everyone massive information that are helpful. It gave me a lot of options to learn and look at and it is very blessed to have this as a resource.
