I think Weems’ works display a atmosphere of calmness. And there are always certain emotions behind her photos, due from people’s facial expression, body movement, and arrangement of object. She uses her body as a performative element to express her experience in the world, this is what I found really unique about her work. In the ending of the interview, she says she builds a form for herself that doesn’t exist anyplace else. She doesn’t see herself represented in any other serious way anyplace else for the most part. I think her works display her inner self and also the self she wishes to expose.
