Reflection on “Multiple Perspectives” Module

Reflection on Multiple Perspectives

The culture of where we raised up has decisive effect on how we see the world. For instance, we all know that different country has its own culture. Our education, action, language, and habit, etc. all link to our culture. This makes each of us see the world differently. Further instance, issue on racism would be serious in America. Using language relates to “color” and personal attacks words can lead oneself to negative circumstances. However, this issue would be much lighter in Asia. I rarely see the issue of racism in China, exclude 60s and 70s elder’s attitude to foreigners. On other hand, on the issue of homophobia, England has the most open mind compare to other countries. In many other countries, homophobia is considered as a psychological problem or illness. Personally, I think portraying the issue of homophobia illustrates diverse opinions from different countries. Because our education and the environment we lived have critical effect on our judgement on certain issues.

Culture also shape the way the world sees us. Whenever we think about a person from a country, we have preconception of what we’ve already known about that country’s culture. And we will relate our previous knowledge of the culture to that person. For instance, when we think about impression of Asian, may be “loud”, “small eyes”, “smart and nerd”, “good at math”, etc. When we think about Koreans, may be “kimchi”, “barbeque”, “plastic surgery”. Some of them are stereotypes but also facts and culture of us. This is how the world sees us, and distinguishes us from other countries.
