LP Post WK 15/ Final Project Submission

Self Identity

Summary

My project is focus on self identity, therefore I want to involve my own characteristics and uniqueness into my work, which the viewers can identify me by the garment I made. I used Satin fabric (color closes to Pantone 7752 CP) because I love this color of fancy feeling, and I think that it would be perfectly match with what I want to make. The fabric helps to create a leisure feeling of loose and oversized garment. Moreover, I am the only one who engage in this project, which means I also modeled and photographed all by myself, because I think doing so shows my identity too.

Thinking

My research inspired me before I started off the project. I researched about John Galliano and Raf Simons and observed how they display uniqueness in their garments. Therefore I decided to do something that symbolizes me but also within my scope of capacity, since I don’t have a great sewing skill. However, as Yohji Yamamoto once said, “I think perfection is ugly. Somewhere in the things humans make, I want to see scars, failure, disorder, distortion.” My goal isn’t to make something perfect, but to make something meaningful.

Planning

Personally, I really love the topic of self-identity, and have great interest to dig deeper into that topic. Therefore, as a designer, I am looking forward to derive and observe more elements in fashion that relate to identity and ego. And I will translate own ideas and perceptions into tangible garments.
