PHOTO ESSAY FIRST DRAFT – VISUAL CULTURE: FLATBUSH

GRAFFITI IN FLATBUSH

Brooklyn is covered in graffiti. It’s so easy to walk down the street and notice something scribbled on the fence to your left or the bench to your right. Walking around in my neighborhood on a daily basis is full of inspiration. I take inspiration from each of these streets pieces; each culprit taking time to make his/her work detailed yet invasive all the same. It is supposed to be vandalism, something I realized so long ago. Flatbush seemed to be a hood reclaimed by those who inhabit it, a hood brimming with young graffiti writers waiting to get their names out there.
