Since I came to New York, I have just taken subways every single day. I realized that there are many problems in the New York subway system; notably, budget and dirty. I spent a lot of money for charging a subway card; I think I have paid $120 or more for every single month, which actually makes me feel uncomfortable. The other problems are trash and dirty. I always feel unpleasant because of offensive smell and sight. Therefore, I tried to avoid to take subways as much as I can, yet it is almost impossible to live here without subways system. Then here, I bring some great ideas for either supporting lighten public’s load and at the same time, make people feel better when they take subways.
- A School Requirement for Graduating: I mean it would be the much easier way to make subway stations clean as soon as possible. Students should volunteer for cleaning subways station for graduating their schools. I am an actually perfect example of this example. When I was attending schools in Korea, all of the students should clean the subways for graduating our schools. Therefore, I had been a subway cleaner for 12years in Korea. I went to the subways station near my house every end of the month. I heard many thanks from people in the station; the majority of people in my hometown said to me that they are so happy to see the subway stations are being cleaner, and some people were willing to join our volunteering.
- To Make Trash Vote Machines: It might be amusing. I think the reason why the subways are so messy is many people just throw their trash away everywhere; they do not really put in the garbage box. So I think we can write down some questions on the trash can. Like this: “how are you? Are you happy today? If you are happy, put your trash the right side! Or do you feel blue? No worries! You can just throw your bad mood in here. It will make feel better! Throw your trash on the left side trash can.” I think many people will be curious about this and join us.
- Cash Back System (depends upon how much trash weight or how many trash they picked up): But I think it is almost impossible to do it at present, but I think that in the future, it could be possible. Making cash back machines, and when people put trash there, they can get some money from the machine. I think that this could help homeless people to live in New York City.
- Promotion Code or to make a point card: This is my favorite solution; I think about the better solutions again and again, and I finally got a realistic solution. When people throw their trash in the designated areas, they can get a promotion code (which has one-time value) for their metro cards. Or combining metro cards and trash point card together, so people can use the point as their transportation expenses. I think that many people actually also feel that subway expenses are really a lot (and I also read an article about this issue of the budget), so I think it is an excellent way to make subway stations clean, and even people get some benefits for willings.
Today, there are various problems with the subway system in New York, including budget and uncleanliness.The problem of garbage existed since 2011 when individuals experienced exposed bags in the subway system. The best solution that I have chosen is to combine two ideas, making trash vote machines and creating promotion code or a point card. It should be noted that the purpose of the following solutions is not only to clean the subway but also to reduce the expense of subway.
A promotion program associated with throwing the garbage in the designating areas. A person who correctly disposes of his garbage can get a one-time value promotion code for his or hers metro cards. By combining the promotion code and metro card, the person will lower his transportation expense. This will not only make the subway system clean but will also engage new visitors and reduce garbage.
Besides thinking of a solution for garbage issues in the New York subway system, one has to consider the budgeting issues. The expenses on the metro card are unreasonably high and it drives away new visitors. The head of the subway system and individuals who are responsible for the budget, should reconsider the prices for the metro card and make them more affordable. However, it should be noted that due to enormous cost of subway management there is no possible way to decrease the prices for the metro card, since it is the only source of income for the subway system. Therefore, in order to decrease the price for the metro card, but simultaneously increase the budget, the government should implement several possible solutions, which are combining these two possible solutions together.
Therefore, this will help the passengers by introducing discounts or credits. It will help with the budget and also reduce their expense of the subway as well, since people will be satisfied with the prices and gladly use the subway system. However, this option has a flaw as well, since at the beginning the subway will suffer from a decreased amount of income; it will pay off in a long run.

It was my first time to work with styrofoam, which was so annoying because I needed a lot of challenging to cut this styrofoam. But I finally did it!
It was really difficult for me rolling this styrofoam, so this is what happened to me, so I decied to use cardboard instead of using it.
It is worth noting that each of the solutions for the budget and garbage of the subway system in New York can work either as an independent project or incorporated with other solutions. To be fair, using a group of solutions will show better results and will eventually increase the budget of the system. However, it should be noted that additional expenses are inevitable.
To conclude, the subway system of New York is devastating. The income at the subway system is too low while the metro card is overpriced, and the subway is unclean. With the provided solutions, the quality of the subway system will gradually increase as well as the income.
