This is the first project to a three part series.
In this project, we had to select a group or person that we feel empathy for/advocate towards. We had to design a poster raise awareness or argue the target.
My project focuses on the family members of suicide victims. I wanted to raise awareness about the subject of suicide, which is often seen as taboo. I have personally dealt with this situation and feel very regretful that many of my family members blame themselves for the unfortunate passing. While it is important to properly mourn, it is not healthy to let this one event stop them from carrying on with their lives.
We were told to post our posters in public settings and record the reactions upon them. I have posted mine onto my Instagram page, NYU’s library, and Union Square Park. I have also recorded a poll regarding two poster designs–a series onto my Instagram story.
Due to the fast pace environment of New York City, it was hard to record a proper reaction from people physically. People would glance over, but would not take the time to stop and discuss their opinions. However, many people have responded and provided feedback digitally on social media.
