This is a continuation project of our first project, “Design + Space: Empathy and Advocacy.” In this project, we were required to design a product for the person or group of people that we feel empathetic towards. My subject was the family members of suicide victims.
I have designed a convertible bag, which represents a tool to motivate the person to carry on with their life. It is very common for family members of suicide victims to halt their life as well, feeling guilt and sadness over the death of their loved ones. Although the incidents are tragic and upsetting, it does not help if the family members stop their lives as well.
A bag is a tool, used to carry one’s belongings when going outside. The bag symbolizes the act of going out.
The bag has four different colors, which may be personalized and customized. The bag can be converted into a backpack, clutch, or a crossbody bag through the manipulation of the snap-on buttons and strap. The user may change the wear of the color and fit of the bag based on their personal mood of the day.
