The Final Project of the class was the Fairy Tale Public Art Project.

I decided to do a sculptural illusion in the shape of a crown for my fairy tale, The Emperor’s New Clothes. The sculpture symbolizes the how things that seem real aren’t really there. People would interact with it by touching in, slowly breaking the illusion as the touch it.

The most difficult thing about this project was time, It just felt like I didn’t have enough. Otherwise, I manage to come pretty close to the idea in my head.

April 22

Public Project

On April 11, some classmates and I headed to Bryan Park with a mission: Obtain stories from people. When we arrived though, we faced various difficulties, as the public wasn’t interested in helping us

So we changed location and moved to the High line

It started out pretty much the same, until we brilliantly changed our tactics to something Americans wouldn’t resist

Afterwards, the booth got rolling until we closed shop

Here are some photos of the event

Sculpture Project

My project for our team sculptures was two statues of characters based on creatures of the folklore from our respective countries

Wynne thought to use characters that would represent our cultures. He decided to use Son Goku as his character; due to the fame the character has in fiction. I decided to go with one of the 5 most well known characters in Venezuelan folklore, The Whistler. I liked the idea of using an obscure and dark character, which would contrast with Son Goku very well.

We decided to use clay and wire due to the details that would be available to us making the statues. We decided to start with a base form of aluminum foil covered wire framing. On top of these, we would apply the clay and do the details of the characters before it dries off. Finally, we decided to make the stage of the statues New York, since that is where we met each other.

Overall, we had little trouble working together in order to decide what we were going to make for this project. Wynne and I effectively brainstorm to make something we hope is very special.
