Buckmister Sphere

This is my first project for my Space/Materiality class: The Buckminster Sphere.

20150209_163056

The project consisted of 2 stages:

The first stage was the construction of the base sphere, the sphere on the left. Using straws and brass-plated pins, we constructed a sphere out of polygons. The sphere is composed of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons. We use this sphere in order to make the next one.

The second stage is a sphere with a unique design, made out of any material of our choosing (the right one). I, being proficient in the material, decided to use wire. My sphere has a main ring composed of 4 pieces, connected by small rings were the pieces go through. The rest of it is pieces of half of the main rings’s length, which create the form of the sphere.

This Project is one of my favorite thus far, making me trouble solve and think how to efficiently make the job asked by the teacher, and reusing a material i used on my portfolio for applying at Parsons
