  1. Questions to refer to
  • Summary of what the movie is about
  • What are the essential elements described in the TED talks
  • What are the criteria for outdoor public space
  • What are the requirements for indoor public space

Reflection:

All 3 videos refer to public spaces within cities, what their significance is and how people interact with them. It sheds light on how outdoor public space deeply impact a city and shape the way the people function in the city. City planning takes public space into consideration as the place through which vehicles pass by, or as a commercial or consumerist opportunity, but rather handles it from the perspective of creating a safe atmosphere for people to ‘sit’ and enjoy, to find purpose within and to bring life to the city. It is essential that public spaces are welcoming for people, gives them space to sit, to enjoy some greenery and allows for them to walk freely without having to worry about getting in the way of vehicles. Indoor and outdoor public spaces have to take the city’s weather into account and ensure that the space works in cohesion with the vibe of the city. These elements are essential to consider when planning a city to ensure that these public spaces transcend their rudimentary purpose of being just an ‘outdoor space’ for transportation.
