Drawing & Imaging Project.1

After learning about Cartography and the connection between its aesthetics and the connection to to spacial information. For this project we began by understanding the importance of perspective and then created a charcoal grisaille drawing of a sustained still life object (as seen in Figure 1.1), here we notice the use of light and shadow in its highest contrast to portray the objects. This process helped in understanding the Gestalt principle. Once this step was completed, through photoshop we converted the image of the drawing into a digital copy (as seen in Figure 1.2). The next step in this project was learning about how we could manipulated use photoshop in different ways.

Through the use of different tools on photoshop like rulers, grids, pen and lasso too. We also learnt how to wrap or mask objects with an image.Combining these techniques we then worked with these tools onto our still life object. As seen in theĀ image below.

Final Reflection

I found this project quite interesting as I had never really worked with these tools on photoshop and at the same time, also learnt how to manipulate these tools. What I found most help for this was the critique sessions, as it was helpful to learn the perspective of other artists.

Avatar Studio Bridge.2

Project Description:

The bridge two project makes us explore sides of our twitter avatars created. However, here we tried to convert this virtual characters into 3D objects. For my character ‘Felicia Lee’ I used paper, wire and tape to create my 3D object.

Reflection:

This project was a bit complex as the topic was quite wide. Hence, I began by going back to the Avatars childhood looking at her background and picking out on things that were not obvious through the twitter account. Once I figured out the base idea for my object and what I wanted to portray I began picking up materials that connected to the object, from its texture to its purpose. Even through the use of colours I wanted to create symbolic role to the object as a whole. In conclusion, I found the project quite interesting as we also discussed ways in which the artist could have portrayed the objects better or what was wrong while trying to depict something.
