Project 3: Description
Within our ‘Presence’ themed project, we are planning to create a series of film elements, that can be merged into a contrasted film, in which we can evoke a (seemingly) accurate vision of the city and metropolis of Paris. Thus, we are trying to create a presence of what we see as first-year foreigners in a foreign city, by the inclusion of our artistic manipulations and interpretations as well as a contrasting view of the Parisians and their views, life and perspectives within the city of Paris. Furthermore, we hope to translate these ideas and perspectives through a central motif and connecting point, which will be the myriad of statues situated on a variety of Parisian hotspots; thus, we will use these statues as a bridge between the past, present and future.

Project 3: Presence in Paris – Initial Idea
Paris a Tout Prix, a movie issued in 2013, about the main actress, an Indian girl working as a fashion designer in Paris. I would like to see the sense of time captured through bright colors in comparison to our own experiences students pursuing the fashion design major in Paris as well.
An Evening in Paris, a movie issued in 1967, shows the party life in Paris. There are many different parts of the city in Paris that seem are less lively than where used to be cafes, now the clubs. I would like to show the contrast of different lifestyles that affect how you perceive your time in Paris.
Behind the Scenes: The Almost Full Picture
Developed through one of the prototypes, we thought it worked well showing the unexpected scenes. As you click through the images, you will notice that you are seeing more of the image. The next portion will reveal more until you see the full image. What is it that you are seeing? What is actually behind what you see?
Project: The Frame – Initial Idea
Deniss Mirea got the idea of the project from the internship she had, and I was also interested looking into the mass workers behind making the models look glamorous in the fashion shows, how the models felt when they were working as compared to when they were relaxed. Trying to capture the frame off stage, normally what is not seen on stage is our aim to notice the stories behind the scenes.
Behind the Scenes: The Making
Together, we have reenacted the behind the scenes settings of a photo shoot. It was a really fun process. Despite we did not gather more people to create all the assistants that styled the models well, we captured how the models were assisted, their personal side, as well as their professional posing.
Behind the Scenes Inspirations
These short clips brought the audience into an inside-view of the making of clothing that models wear in the Haute Couture. This is only one of the essential aspects of making the show possible, but already involves several people on the embroidery of one piece of cloth. Makeup artists, stylists, dressers, designers, photographers, are all involved in the backstage process of a fashion show.
Project 2 – The Frame: Research
Fashion: Behind the Scenes
The fashion show is a platform where a season of clothing is shown to the customers, well-known people, and the media. It is a series of clothing that has been designed and made before arriving at the fashion show ready for the models to wear.
People get off the car and start entering the seats provided at the fashion show, including cameramen, celebrities. The stage is ready. The music starts playing. The models stride onto the runway in a chic manner, presented the clothing and accessories on them to reflect the theme of the collection.
They look so nice. Cameras record their movements on stage. The main designer appears on the stage. They all look so happy. The audience applauds for their performance. However, there was much done before to create a glamour appearance that lasts within a few short minutes.
Let us rewind to the time before the show began. The models are here backstage. Makeup artists, hair stylists gather around the model to create the only look for the fashion show. According to the hairstyle, some hair-dos take a longer time to finish. The models are being dressed as dressers and designers do the last minute touch up, sewing and tailoring the garment to fit the body well.
In order to achieve the fashion show that is going to be widely advertised for its few minutes duration, many workers have done teamwork to make sure that each model looks good on stage. There are stress and collaboration happening behind the seemingly easy and convenient runway walk. We should look more into all the handwork that took to create the great final showcase.
Box to Accessory
The object that I have chosen is a box that can be opened by simply lifting up the round handle of the top side of the prism. I would like to shrink down its size and add a lock to it so what is contained can be better secured.
Accessories that have a locked compartment that can contain small objects, deriving from miniature jars attached with string and accessories with a secret cavity. I saw miniature jars at tourist places in Taiwan, and a ring that has a hidden compartment in a TV show.
I shrank down the size of the appealing glass box to a cube-shaped necklace that can only be unlocked with the key in the compartment of the ring. This provides a different meaning to a pair of accessories.
