One Day

The warm sunshine reflected on the bed, and Cindy slowly woke up from her sweet dream. She went to the bathroom to brash her teeth. She usually drinks a cup of tea in the morning but choosing different flavor from time to time, because she thinks drinking tea is a good habit to start off a fresh day. Today, she kindly selected the “Longjing” which is a type of Chinese tea. Approximately a year ago, Cindy’s favorite morning drink was the homemade Green Tea Latte. However, she started to drink “Longjing” because it came from her hometown.

She dressed in a casual way without putting on makeup and she looks clean and pure. A lot of stuff were messily left on the table because she studied late yesterday and did not have time to untangle them. Her goal for this semester is to receive “A” for all her courses. Ten minutes later, she began to clean up her table and continued to study some problems which she could not figure out last night. Unfortunately, solutions still could not be found out but she did not forfeit.

She also has another routine habit which is going to gym every morning. This habit keeps her body fit and healthy. Because her friend’s birthday today, she was going to meet her friend at the Chinese restaurant “Hakkasan” for lunch which mainly serve “Huaiyang” style Chinese food, a type of food comes from their hometown.

After friend’s birthday lunch, she rushed back to school because her class would start at 3:50. During her class, she carefully took notes on her laptop. After class, she tried to go to Korean Town to meet her friend for Korean BBQ which was her favorite food except Chinese food. Because it was the rush hour during a day, she had to fight for a bit of space on a crowded subway. After two stops, the train arrived at 33th Street subway station, and she followed the crowed to leave the station.

After a delicious dinner time with her friends, she started walking back to her apartment by herself. She went to check her mail box while waiting for the elevator. She pressed “FL23” button in the elevator, and the elevator ran relatively slowly today because she just could not wait to get back inside of her apartment. Her apartment could provide her with a beautiful city view. As usual, she laid on the sofa and looked outside of the window after a nice shower. Everything was peaceful. Even though Cindy often thought about her hometown and her family members there, she still enjoyed every moment in this city.

Sustainable Systems Week 2 Field Trip

We visited “Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space” and four various styles of community gardens on last Friday, and overall this field trip was amazing. Those community gardens were unique and historical and but were discarded since long time ago. Over the years, many community members around this neighborhood had filled with the vibrant gardens with rubbles to create many fields. Also, they built a roof garden inside of the building, and created more space. The innovation and invention of “rainwater collective filter system” and “greens fermentation machine” made the community more environment-friendly, as well as the community garden consistently provided fresh vegetables and organic fish and free-range chicken with low-income neighbors. It is no doubt that those community gardens could be considered as a type of sustainability in term of people could have activities inside of the garden and have healthy daily diet.

We watched a video regarded to how residents in this neighborhood fighting the “Sandy” hurricane. I am extremely proud of those characters in that movie. When devastating cyclone “Sandy” hit in New York, flood inundated on the street and water poured into the basement of houses. They were not scared it at all. In opposite, they tried to fight back and prevent flood from flushing their houses. In addition, they wisely rid a bike with power transformation system to generate the electric power, to support their cell phones and water pumps.
