ARS)Artist Statement

Today was my last day when I was a junior, and it was a fantastic year of school life for me. My major was designs and technology, so I really wanted to learn something about software. This major was solving design problems by remixing software, hardware, art, and design creatively.
In my major class of this semester, our group makes a collaborative space where two isolated users work together to create an audio-visual experience through gesture-based interaction. The objective of this installation is to foster isolated collaboration: working with strangers while retaining one’s personal space in order to create a musical masterpiece. Then, we successfully hosted a final project exhibition to the public, and it was my first opportunity to show my work. This experience was advantageous to me because I learned a whole progress exhibition’s preparation. Besides, it helps me better start my thesis show in the next year.

ARS Portfolio Reflection Project

1. Short Bio: Originally from China, studying in New York City. Design and technology at Parsons. Mainly interested in UI design.
2. What do you make: User interface design UI is the design of user interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience.
3. Aesthetic Values: Dictated by the material I use. Although a lot of my work does draw from my heritage through the inclusion of Arabic lettering as well as the exploration of geometric design.
4. How: Hands-on in a design process, embrace the flaws of layout and color.
5. Why: I want to make objects that look nice but also have a story to tell for people who want to listen.
6. Research Interests: Typically explore materiality and process when approaching a new project. Aided by other forms of research such as deep diving into a topic or market analysis.
7. Future: I’m looking to return to China and pursue my product design future there.

I am a UI designer based in New York City. I am currently pursuing a degree in design and technology at Parsons the New School of Design. With a focus on mobile interface design and user experience, I am very hands-on in my design process; often designing through the manufacturing process. I continue to challenge myself by taking on projects as an opportunity to explore idea and means. Rather than hiding imperfections in a piece, I bring them to the forefront of the concept to highlight the manufacturing process.
