OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING

LANDSCAPE AND INTERIOR DRAWING:

For these drawings we learnt how to understand and capture space within the paper. Perspective was important and representing things that are closer to us or further away without direct lines going forwards or backwards was key.

HUMAN FIGURES:

To learn how to draw human face features we started by doing some exercises where without looking at the paper we would draw someones face. It helped a lot to understand the spaces that connect the different features in the face. We learnt how not only to focus on the contour of faces but also on the little details and their proportions on the face.

APPLE DRAWINGS:

In this lesson we learnt how to contour, give volume to 2D figures and show density by shading and adding detail. We used apples since they are good to be able to show these 3 things. We started by doing the contour, continued for adding volume thanks to horizontal and vertical lines and finished cross-hatching to shade the apple. The last step was to add a bit of detail, imperfections the apple had and so on.

PERSPECTIVE:

In this lesson we learnt how to properly look at perspective and how to draw it. We examined how lines react when they are closer or further to us. Also, we tried to position ourselves on different positions like siting on the floor, to try and transmit that feeling in our drawings.

DRAWING IN MUSEUMS:

In museums we looked at sculptures and tried to draw them. We tried to get the proportions right as well as try to understand how the lighting hits the figures and makes them react to light. We used the techniques learnt in the apple drawing: contour, volume and texture.
