Today in class a teacher mentioned to us we live in a society where we believe a lot of myths.
I found this quite interesting and I started to think about things that I believe or know that are myths and made a list.
Common myths:
- When you break a mirror you get bad luck.
- There is no such thing as the 5 second rule. It depends on the bacteria on the floor.
- Fish don’t have a 3 minute memory. It depends on the type of fish.
- The three wise men. Nowhere is there specified there were three.
- Chinese fortune cookies. They were actually invented in Japan.
- Dropping a penny from a building will kill someone if they get hit.
- It takes seven years to digest a swallowed chewing gum.
- If you swallow a chewing gum it will stick to your stomach.
- You won’t get married if you walk under a scaffolding.
- If you open an umbrella inside you get bad luck.
- The Great Wall of China can not be seen from Space.
- The mustard seed is the smallest seed.
- Elephants are afraid of mice.
- A stitch in time saves seven.
- Early bird always catches the early worm. Not necessarily true if you wake up too early.
- Intelligent people are better listeners.
- Gender affects listening ability.
- Asking questions makes you look stupid.
- Sugar makes children hyperactive.
- You need to plan everything to do it correctly.
- You can always make time.
- Time travelling.
- Mañana manda.
- Exercise can erase a bad diet.
- More people are alive today than died in history.
- Jesus was born on December 25th.
- All things turists do are bad.
- The death of Catherine the Great. It was not as disgusting.
