Interlude B “Project 1”

The purpose of this interlude was to make reference for my previous project.

Since I made this project from my own theory, I didn’t get many reference from professional artist. However, I made a presentation of how I came up with the idea of project 1, and the artists and artworks that inspired me.

I was inspired by history itself and existence of artists rather than artwork itself. The value of artwork has been changing due to time. Surrealism was taboo 100 years ago, but it has been developed. Now abstract art is more popular than realism, which is almost opposite value of realism.

For my inspiration for project 1, I was inspired by the beach, Shichirigahama, and the fact that water flow has been changing by the constructions that man kind made.

Hamburger, by Andy Warhol inspired me to use one perspective for the filming to emphasis the detail of water flow itself.

So these are the “reference” I choose after I finished working on my project. Dali Salvador was surrealism artist who used to be controversial, but changed the perspective of art district, which involves with changing history. For “Alaska” from Sebastiao Salgado, it has water flow like my project, Period.

I strongly believe that I can get inspiration from wherever I want, and due to my way of thinking, I just couldn’t follow the introduction that professor gave to the class.

It is good to study the styles of professional artists. However, I believe It doesn’t make sense to make up the reference after I finish working on a project unless I get inspiration from those artists before I made the work.

I assume I am failed on this project, but I am not ashamed of it since I couldn’t see the point of this interlude. Developing artwork doesn’t necessary mean to get inspired by existed artists. In fact, many artists get inspired by environment and coincidence. Dali Salvador made “The Persistence of Memory” inspired by melting cheese, which is nothing to do with art. However, this Dali’s work is still one of stands as impacted artwork in term of revolutionary surrealism work.
