  • Arc de Triomphe/ La Gilet Jaune

: Recreate the shape of Arc de Triomphe

At Champ-Elysse last year, there were Gilet Jaune and it gave a huge impact on Paris and even to the French government, through the destruction.

Now it is a new symbolic place of Protest, the newest french revolution in a way.

It makes sense to change the shape of Arc de Triomphe, just like Bernard Tsuchimi did to La Villette.

  • Feeling in slaughterhouse vs feeling in museum

: There is a statistic that shows a high rate of mental disorder in a slaughterhouse, compare to any other workers. The survey compares the symptom of office workers and butchers. The survey shows the mental states of participants and the statistic shows that the group of butcher has higher psychopathology than office workers. At the beginning of the report, the study also shows butchers have a higher rate of early marriage with lower levels of education than office workers. Some participants finish their education in primary school. Dr. Chi-chi Obuaya, a consultant psychiatrist at Nightingale mental health hospital in London, mentioned that PTSD usually rises from a specific traumatic incident, usually among victims of violence or someone witnessed something. Butchers have to kill the animals daily as their job, and it’s imaginable that the experience can be traumatic.

: “Art can change a person’s outlook and the way they experience the world.”

Art can be a really good educational material. When the spectator sees good arts, it makes new neural pathways and stimulating a state of inspiration.

Bloody Sundays

  • La Villette used to be a slaughterhouse
  • Architecture can’t change function entirely; Prison functions as a prison and the architecture itself is not for a freeman.
  • “A museum is like the lungs of a great city: the crowd floods into the museum every Sunday like blood, and it leaves purified and fresh.”
  • “The origin of the modern museum,” he comments, “would thus be linked to the development of the guillotine.” => “The Louvre was turned into a museum during the Revolution by the Convention when the function of royalty had been put to an end. The museum is what the Terror invented to replace the king, to replace the irreplaceable.”

Defacement

  • Such a place where it has defacement usually has negative energy.
  • “Indeed this negative state can come across as more sacred than “sacred,” especially since that most spectacular defacement, the death of God, was announced by Nietzsche’s madman: “Do you feel the breath of empty space?” He demands, lantern held high in the blazing sun.”
  • “It is the cut as the montage principle that makes the energy in the system visible and active.” – Thomas Elsaesser
  • “Defacement is like Enlightenment. It brings insides outside, unearthing knowledge, and revealing the mystery.
