Final Project: Faceless

Faceless is a wearable mask that shows the theory of identity in VR. The player can create their identity by choosing the looks and characteristics of their avatar, meaning that their real identity becomes anonymous. (They hide their real identity).

It represents duality between two identities: Real life and VR. One’s identity in real life is affected by all the elements that surrounds them. (Family heritage, events, etc). The player in VR can shape their identity however they want. It becomes a matter of choice. This enables the player to hide their real identity.

The strings coming out of the mask are an important detail as the represent the player’s real-self showing, and affecting the behavior of their avatar. The choices the player makes in the Virtual Reality still originate from their true personality, which is part of their real identity. As much as one hides behind VR; there is always a bit of truth and reality in fiction.

Process:

First, we cut wood into 2 cm and 1 cm pieces. We then made two holes into the 2 cm pieces, and one hole into the 1 cm ones.

We used red strings to create the structure of the mask. (We passed the strings into the holes).
We sewed the wooden structure onto a beanie hat.
