“Drone photo of deforestation in the Bolivian Amazon for soybeans.” Photo by Rhett A. Butler.

#Mainconcept #Deforestation #Green

This image shows the idea of deforestation of the amazon. Over 750,000 square kilometers of the Amazon rainforest in South America have been destroyed since 1978. They continue to destroy the forest for the illegal logging, gold mining, oil exploration, overharvesting of fish, and cattle ranching business.

Hoatzin by Ivan Phillipsen

Hoatzin is one of the unique birds in the world. It habits in the rainforest, and it mainly uses claws to climb up the trees instead of flying around. It is also unique because it doesn’t have any relative species that aren’t extinct. It is truly a unique species in the forest.

His name is Raercio Guajajara, and he is the leader of the group(The guardian of the forest) that protects the forest from the loggers. The conflict between loggers and the guardians are as serious as guns are involved, and they are risking their lives to fight for the forest. On the other side, loggers come from a village where they suffer from poverty, and they have no other options but cut the trees to live. The documentary takes the side of the guardians, but the problem is deeper than one side story; it is about a huge environmental issue, the reality of poverty in South America, and the corruption of the government.

Heliconia by Penny Lisowski uploaded on July 16. 2013

#Exotic #Passionate #Tropical

While Amazon has been facing a significant crisis, the rainforest produces many exotic flowers and plants as much as the animals. Heliconia is the flower that gave me an impact. The passionate color and interesting shape of this flower is something that reminds of the tropical mood, and visually appealing to me. The flower also symbolizes youth and beauty.

Giant lotus is another type of flower that comes from the Amazon river area. The meaning of the flower is “Purity of heart,” which you can barely find compare to the leaf.

Hydrangea and two Chicken. Jakuchu Ito. 1759

#Vibrant #Traditional #Sophisticated #Superflat

Jakuchu Ito is known for the vibrant traditional Japanese style, and original Nihon-ga, which is the roots of the super flat of Takashi Murakami. Japanese art has been influenced by Western culture after world war 2, and Super flat mainly shows the aesthetic after the influence. Personally I love how Jakuchu drew in such a small detail and vibrant color, yet very mature. Also, some of his artworks are not possible for a modern scanner to read every single detail, and it looks different when you actually see the artwork with eyes. It is mind-blowing and makes you want to worship it when you see it. The technique of super flat artwork is similar to this traditional drawing, but it gives the impression of youth and shiny feeling, unlike Jakuchu.

Forest Landscape with Setting Sun 1910, Henri Rousseau.

#Tropical #Sophisticated #Detail

I like how Rousseau drew his tropical landscape in such detail and several layers that it might be impossible to recreate in digital tools. It will simply become too much GB that the processor would stop working after creating this much of layers. I love the warm color of this artwork as well. It gives this sunset vibe and gives life to the tropical motifs. A masterpiece.

Marcos Chin. @marcoschinart

#Conceptual #DigitalDrawing #Stylistic

I like Marco’s illustration in general because each illustration has a story. Chin is a freelance illustrator and educator in the School of Visual Arts NYC. His style is a combination of analog and digital drawing with his conceptual expression of articles. I took his online course, and I like how he combines digital and analog mediums to create his own style. The course was truly useful to look for my own style and experimentation.

The museum of fine arts Houston, James Turrell

#Moody #Installation #Light

James Turrell is known to experiment with light and space. His work usually obtains minimum colors and simple shapes of architecture, which creates a unique atmosphere. I am inspired by the way he installs the light panel and creates the mood. Perhaps, it would be interesting to experiment with lights for the display of installation, so that it creates a special mood to trigger unique emotions.
